Dorothy "Dot" Pederson Reid 1922 ~ 2010 Dorothy "Dot" Jean Pederson Reid died November 15, 2010 at the home of her daughter - surrounded by her loved ones. Dot was born in Ephraim, Utah July 3, 1922, the sixth of seven children to Henry and Clara Anderson Pederson. At the time of her death, she was the last survivor of her family. She had endured many years of congestive heart failure complicated by neuropathy. She died of incidents due to age. Dorothy attended Ephraim's public schools and graduated from Snow College, majoring in secretarial training. Following graduation she worked during the war years as secretary to the college president and later as assistant registrar. There must have been a beautiful reunion in heaven when she returned to the arms of her beloved Howard, who preceded her in death on February 22, 1998. They were married on July 25, 1946 in the Manti LDS Temple. After their marriage they left for southern California where Howard could attend graduate school at USC. Dot was secretary for USC's Registrar. Three years later they moved to Greeley, Colorado where Howard had accepted a position at the college. Dot loved the college atmosphere and worked first in public relations and later as assistant to the director of student teaching. Four years later they moved to Provo, Utah to be closer to Dot's aging parents and where Howard had accepted the position of Chairman of Counseling Service at BYU. Dot worked first for the Dean of Arts and Science and when Howard became Dean of the Graduate School she became his secretary. Dorothy stopped working for awhile to raise a family. When she returned to work she worked for four years as a secretary at First Security Bank then returned to work at BYU in the Department of Family Resource Management. After several years in that department she went to work for the Alumni Association as a secretary/receptionist and then later as an Alumni Biographer. This later position gave her the opportunity to use her writing skills, which she enjoyed. It was from this position that she retired. Dot was a member of the LDS Church and had many callings within the Primary and Relief Society as well as a temple ordinance worker. She had a strong testimony and loved the gospel. Dot was a member of the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers in which she served as Captain for two terms. She enjoyed the meetings and many friendships while learning about pioneer ancestry. She always said that she was looking forward to meeting her own ancestors. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Jeri (Scott) Boyle, Lehi, Utah; Alan (Pam) Reid, Wichita Falls, Kansas; Sheryl (Steve) Wilson, Kingman, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents, four sisters and two brothers. The family would like to thank Alpha Home and Hospice Care of Orem - especially Candy, Amber, Carly, Lynn, and Janet for their kind and loving care of our mother. She was a woman of great faith and love. She will be missed every single day. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Orem Cascade 4th Ward, 1050 East 200 North, Orem. Viewing will be held Friday evening, November 26, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and prior to the funeral at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be held at the East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North Timpview Drive, Provo.
