It seems like only yesterday that I was living in Manti while attending school at Snow College. Life moves by way too quickly, so it’s important that we stop and remember life’s special moments. Everyone’s life is full of firsts. The first time you saw the ocean, the first time we flew in a plane, or the first time you saw a herd of Elk.
I will always remember Finny as being the person that first introduced me to a flock (rafter) of turkeys. I had never seen anything like that barn full of gobbling toms. Finny handed me a shovel and directed me to a wheel barrel simply saying, “Fill it up”. I don’t think he stopped laughing that day due to the expression on this city boy’s face, as I learned exactly what my job entailed that day. My memories of Finny will always be of a smiling man, with a great sense of humor, who loved to laugh.
My thoughts are we the Shand family as they mourn the loss of a very special man. Personally, I can’t thank Finny, Don, and the rest of the Shand family enough for my experiences working with them on the farm. Those times are full of special moments, shared with special people.
