Eilene,
I had the opportunity to work with Fred from 1976 until he retired from Reclamation in 1993. We first met while taking an eye exam for the Forest Service in Price- I was a summer geology temp. for the Price Ranger District and he was the Zone geologist for the Supervisor's Office. I had expressed to Fred my interest in engineering geology and he encouranged me to check out Reclamation, which I did. Fred became my supervisor in 1980 when he became the Regional Geologist for the Upper Colorado Region. Fred was an excellent teacher and I owe much of my career success to his training (and tough review comments-LOL). We spent a lot of time together in the field working on some difficult assignments at Fontenelle, Scofield, and Ridgway Dams. He always encouraged us to do our best in seeing that the dams we were responsible for were as safe as we could possibly make them- Reclamation's geology program was better because of his involvement. I owe a debt of gratitude to Fred for being such a good mentor and friend. Gee I hope they have rock picks in heaven because he'll be lost without one!

Dear Eilene and Family
We have dearly enjoyed our relationship with you and Fred through Trudy and Mark, and our shared grandchildren.
Fred was a quite giant among men and I enjoyed my many visits with you both. I could sympathize with Fred as he underwent treatment and know that he fought the good fight. How grateful we are that we know that we will all meet him again.
Our Love and sympathy to you and your entire family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the extended Thompson clan. Fred was a kind and gentle man - a fine husband and devoted father. I always looked to him as a fine example of what a man should be. I will be forever grateful for the kindness and generosity he extended to me in my teen and early adult years. Til we meet again...

Kristen and Doug,
I recall meeting your dad (and mom) only once at your wedding, but certainly heard a lot of good things about him over the years since. The blessings of the Temple will anable your permanent reunion with him some day. Until that time, we know you will miss him. May the Lord's blessing of this knowledge and the love of family and friends give you comfort and support until that day. We love you guys.

To The Thompson Family, Kristen/Doug thank you Kristen for sharing your father with so many people. I also have fond memories of your father. I know how hard it is to say good bye to someone you have loved for so long, but he will always be with you. And sometimes you will hear his still small voice whisper to you, I LOVE YOU. May you and your family have the Lords comforting words" You are not alone. I am always with you”.
