OREM, UTAH-Our dedicated, humorous, loving father and husband passed away on Saturday May 25th, 2013 from causes incident to age.
Gary was born in Provo, Utah on February 23rd, 1930. He grew up in Provo on 3rd South in a wonderful neighborhood. He attended Maeser Elementary School. He grew up fishing and hunting with his father, Joe Loveridge. His favorite hiking destination with his brother Steve Loveridge was Cuberant Lakes in the Uintas. Gary also enjoyed raising his younger sister Kay. As a young person he played bass fiddle in a band with his cousin Bill Johnson. He was student body president of Farrer Junior High. In high school he attended both Provo High School and Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah. He also attended Brigham Young University.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Argentina from 1947 to 1950. He married his sweetheart Shirley Larsen on November 12, 1953. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korea conflict at Fort Ord, California where he and his wife Shirley became life-long friends with six couples called 'the Gang'. Over the years they have traveled and vacationed together and remained lifelong friends. His first child Lori, was born there.
Gary enjoyed the holidays by playing Santa Claus to family and friends. He retired from the BYU Bookstore in 1990 after 18 years of service as the purchasing manager for BYU apparel. In retirement he and his wife served multiple missions in the United States and Europe.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in many callings. One of his favorite callings was branch president, Spanish speaking at the MTC.
Gary is survived by his wife Shirley Larsen Loveridge, his sister, Kay Vernon, his five children Lori (Scott) Sanderson, Mike (Linda) Loveridge, Jim (Annett) Loveridge, Trish (Jerry) Cantrell, Lisa (Mike) Talbot, 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren with five on the way. He is now reunited with his parents, Joseph Alexander Loveridge and Margaret Leavitt Loveridge Wilde, and brother, Steve.
The family would like to thank the staff at Orem Nursing and Rehab for their dedicated and loving care of Dad over the last three years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Orem 2nd Ward Chapel 80 South 280 East in Orem. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from to 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah and also Friday 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the ward chapel prior to the services.
