Hazel Hyde McGregor 1911 ~ 2010 Hazel Hyde McGregor, age 99, graduated to a higher plain on 23 April 2010 at her home in St. George. Hazel was born in her grandmother's home in Snowville, Utah, on 15 April 1911. She is the eldest child of Lester and Pearl Hickman Hyde. She married Francis W. McGregor on 2 November 1932 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Hazel was raised in Logan, where she was educated, and also spent summers on a dry farm her father had in Blue Creek, Box Elder County, in the days when horses supplied the main energy in the production of grain from these dry farms. She was an excellent horseback rider, handler of drey horses, and also a good truck driver, as she hauled the grain to the railroad siding at Lampo on the S.P.R.R. At the age of 19 she left Logan to help her grandmother Barbra Hickman in Ogden, Utah where she met her future husband Francis McGregor while attending a church function. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of L.D.S., serving in the Primary and Relief Society presidencies of her local wards. She was a wonderful helpmate of her husband in their joint endeavors in building their first home in South Ogden and in later years building a beautiful mountain cabin in Summit County, where they entertained and fed family and hosts of friends and relatives. She was a good sport in accompanying her husband on his numerous hunting, fishing and snowmobiling trips. They were able to travel to Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and many South Pacific Isles and to the European countries. She and one daughter also traveled to Israel to the rededication of the Orsen Hyde Memorial at the Mount of Olives with a group of Hyde relatives. Her hobbies were raising beautiful roses and other floral decoration. She worked for the Ogden Woolen Mills designing and making women's clothing. She was a wonderful cook and housekeeper, enjoying her nine grandchildren, her 15 great-grand-children and her seven great-great- granddaughters. She is survived by her husband F. W. McGregor, son F. Reed McGregor (Sherry), daughters Roseanne Tucker (Neldon) and Bonnie Rae Wright (Doug), sister Virginia Gutowski in Mountain House, CA; and brothers Kenneth Hyde of Redmond, UT; and Joseph W. Hyde (Norma) of Aurora, UT; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews of both sides of the family. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, April 28 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist Mortuary at 3408 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT. The family wishes to thank the following Applegate Hospice Service individuals: Dr. Madsen, Bonnie and Carol, nurses Nanette and Natalie, attendants Kallene and Tala, Chaplin Rick, and Angie. A brief memorial service is planned for a later date at their local ward in St. George. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.
