Heidi Smith Obituary

Aug. 24,1975~Sept. 3, 2012
Loving mother, dearest daughter, granddaughter, sister, and aunt unexpectedly experienced an aortic aneurysm and returned to her Father in Heaven early on the morning of Sept. 3, 2012. Born to Shellie W. and Terryl G. Miller in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday, August 24, 1975.
Heidi made a friend of and a fond, lasting impression on all those with whom she made contact, everywhere she went. She possessed a spunky, jovial spirit whose countenance was a light shone brightly to the world. Her zest for life and smile were contagious; if you knew Heidi, you loved Heidi.
At a young age, Heidi found a knack as an avid horseback rider, trained and skilled in English, Western, and Hunter Jumper riding. She was the State of Utah high point rider of the year for three years running, posting 43 consecutive championships, qualifying her to ride at the US Arabian Nationals at the young age of 11. She graduated from Woodinville High School in Washington in 1993. She earned varsity letters in Swim and Tennis, and served in DECA as a state level officer and placed top 20 for marketing at national competitions. After graduation, Heidi attended Bon Losee Academy (1995) in Provo, Utah, where she found and pursued her rare talent and gift for cosmetology and hair artistry. She met and married Paul Smith in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 29, 1996.
Heidi was the personification of service. She held a unique gift of love when serving as a volunteer at the Special Olympics, in addition to her involvement with children, immediate family, extended family, neighbors and friends. Heidi served countless hours as a 4 yr. member of the National Honors Society and DECA, raising significant amounts of money for burn victims, and recently, she volunteered her time as a stylist for numerous Miss Utah pageants and events. She was continuously involved in the LDS church, serving in all capacities and callings asked of her.
Heidi loved spending time with her family, with whom she has developed the deepest bonds of love and friendship. One could always expect to see Heidi at her kids' activities and events as a "proud mom!" Family vacations, annual Lake Powell trips, and skiing the slopes were places where Heidi loved to cultivate love and cherish family and friends. As an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, she was always programmed for fall football.
Heidi loved spending her summers outside. As a teacher of swim lessons, she eased the trepidations felt by even the most reluctant children, which spoke to her extraordinary talent for working with and loving people. She carried those talents with her where she was presently working at XO Communications as a Billing Analyst in Sandy, UT. Heidi loved her co-workers and was proud to be a part of the "XO Team".
A viewing has been scheduled for Friday, September 7, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Following the viewing on Saturday, funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Location for all services held: Lehi Utah Jordan River Stake, 2161 W Gray Drive (350 South) Lehi, UT 84043. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane (2000 East), Holladay, Utah.
Survived by daughter Samantha Smith, son Troy Smith, parents Terryl G. and Shellie W. Miller, sister Camee Wilson (Wes), brother Nathan Miller (Rachel), brother Ryan Miller (Holly), grandmother Barbara J. Wood, Paul Smith, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. Preceded in death by her grandfather Robert W. Wood, and grandparents Leon E. and Barbara S. Miller.

The world is a little dimmer this week, but I have no doubt Heaven is brighter. Heidi and I met at BYU freshman year and our paths have continued crossing over and over again the past twenty years. I'm a better person for having known Heidi and been lifted by her energetic spirit. From Heidi I learned to be happy through adversity, it's ok to be spontaneous, and to love everyone. Thank you, Heidi for touching my life and always making me laugh. To know you was to love you. You packed more into your short 37 years than most people do in a lifetime! I hope your sweet children, parents, and Paul can find peace during this difficult time. How comforting to know they have such a beautiful spunky angel watching over them! Until our paths cross again in the next life! Love ya!

I'm so sorry to hear about Heidi's passing. She was a wonderful childhood friend. We shared many silly adventures as girl-scouts.. shared a few crushes on the same boys.. and enjoyed harmless mischief in our school classrooms.. Heidi's life was a life well lived. I look forward to see her bright smile again someday! For now I hope her family will be comforted and have the blessed assurance of the life here after.. Heidi.. I haven't seen you for so many years.. but I feel so much sadness for your passing. I will never forget you.
