Jacob DeLoss Bowers, at the age of 93, passed away on December 5, 2012, surrounded by family. He was born June 4, 1919 to Ether and Marietta Pay Bowers in Nephi, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Wally, Jim, Mervin, his sister Marie, and his grandson Gerald. During the depression he worked and lived in the CC camp for 4 years. He helped build many of the roads and mountain trails on Mount Timpanogos and Mount Nebo that we enjoy hiking on. He served in the army during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war he was visiting his brother in Grand Junction, Colorado and met his eternal companion Dora Ernestine Wolfe at a dance. They were married on June 2, 1946 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 28, 1950. They are the parents of 7 children Jim (Sheril), Dorrine (Steven Smith), David (Jeannette), Dan (Chris), Nancy (Steven Middleton), Sandra (John Hawkins), Jon (Shanna). They have 31 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Jacob and his sweet wife served many years in the Jordan River Temple. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He coached Little League baseball with Vaughn Soffe as his sponsor. He played church softball into his seventies. He belonged to a bowling league for 15 years. But his greatest love was camping and fishing with his family. We wish to thank Heartwood Home Health Care especially Carlos, Scott, Kris and Janine for their love and care.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at the West Jordan 21st Ward Chapel, 2601 West 7720 South, West Jordan, Utah. The family will receive visitors Monday, December 10, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah and an hour prior to the services at the LDS chapel. Interment at Vine Bluff Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
