Jennie Renee Marchant Hyde Obituary
1931 ~ 2013
Jennie Renee Marchant Hyde, age 81, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at her home in Fort Worth, Texas, from leiomyosarcoma. Jennie Hyde, daughter of G. Reed and Mary Afton Marchant, was born Sept 20, 1931, in Provo, Utah, and grew up in a loving family in Peoa, then Kamas, UT. She graduated valedictorian from South Summit High School and then summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in English. Three days after graduation, she married George Richard Hyde in the Salt Lake City Temple. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2012. After marriage, the couple settled in Washington DC, where Jennie taught kindergarten and George attended law school. Jennie retired at the birth of their first child. She became a willing community volunteer, church leader, mentor to many, and friend to the lonely. She served with her husband in the LDS Washington, DC temple for many years. Together, they also served in the Canada Montreal Mission. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, chocolate, puzzles, cooking, and entertaining. Her family was her greatest joy. Survivors: husband, George Richard Hyde; four children, George Marchant (Kathleen) Hyde of Katy, TX; Richard Lewis (Alison) Hyde of Palo Alto, CA; Jennifer Hyde (Spencer) Smith of Fort Worth, TX; Lisa Hyde of Sandy,UT; 16 grandchildren, David and Scott (Jana) Williams and Jessica (Jeremy) Hyde; Jennie, Richard (Kimberly),Michelle, and John Hyde; George, Travis, Clark and Emily Hyde; Justin, Ryan and Jordan Smith; Brendan (Jacqueline) and Derek Abbott. Also six great-grandchildren: Hannah, Jane, Samuel, Olivia, and Macy Williams; and Parker Hyde. Sister, Adele (Rodgers) Lambert; brothers, Duane (Joan) and Lewis (Joanne) Marchant; and a host of nieces and nephews. Jennie was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Hyde Williams, her parents, brother Reed and his wife (Janiece), and sister Mattie Marchant.
Memorial service: 2:00 pm, Saturday, Feb 2, 2013 at the LDS Hidden Creek Ward, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, UT. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Private interment in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund (give.ldsp.org/memoriam).
