June Louise Richmond Bates Obituary
1925 ~ 2018
Born February 28, 1925, to Everett and Louise Meyer Richmond, June Louise Richmond was a member of "The Greatest Generation". The Richmond home was "at the end of town" on a dirt road (500 West) a short distance from the hospital. Mom was the oldest of five (Myra, Joe, Jess, Dixie and Richard), plus a half-brother and a half-sister. She had the difficult distinction of surviving them all and passed away on February 8, 2018.
Mom married Phillip Cornell at age 17 and they had two children, Michael and Vikki. Later divorced.
Mom worked hard from a young age picking strawberries and cherries for cents a day, to finalizing her working life as being an "old timer/founder" of a KFC (in Mountain View California). Two years after opening the KFC in Mountain View, Mom met and married Robert "Bob" Bates. One year later, they opened and co-owned/managed a KFC in Cupertino, California, doing so for 11 years.
Mom and Bob returned to Utah in 1980. Bob began working again for Coca Cola, where he had worked prior to meeting Mom. A short five years later, Bob retired from working and they became snowbirds. They maintained a home in both Yuma and American Fork for 30 years. In 2015 Mom and Bob sold their home in Yuma and with sad hearts said good-bye to many dear and close friends.
Mom's health declined significantly the last 6-8 months. Bob cared for Mom patiently and diligently during this difficult time-and she remained at home. A promise kept! Mom loved her family and friends with all her heart.
Survived by husband Bob Bates, sons Mike (Margie) Cornell, Robert Bates, Michael Bates (deceased), daughter Vikki, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to all who loved, visited, helped and kept Mom and Bob in their thoughts and prayers - Bless you.
