1918 ~ 2015
Our beloved father and grandfather passed away on February 28, 2015. Keith was born July 2, 1918 (age 96). He was the 3rd son and 5th child of Jacob and Hettie Howell Hansen.
He is survived by his three sons (Greg from Honolulu, Brent from San Diego and Jeff, from Springville, Utah), and nine grandchildren. He was born in Bear River, Utah where his mother died in childbirth. He had two brothers and two sisters that all predeceased him. His father had him go live with his cousins at a young age and he ran away from home at 14 to Jackson Hole where he was a cowboy of sorts, lassoing wild horses for a living and jumping trains for transportation. He played football at BYU and semi pro baseball. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully filled many callings including an LDS mission to South Africa and ward clerk for many years. He served in the US Army until a knee injury ended his career and he returned to complete his accounting schooling prior to obtaining his CPA. He went on to found the accounting firm of Hansen, Barnett and Maxwell which became the largest local firm in the state that bore his name until a recent buyout by national firm Eide Bailey.
He was married to Norma Hughes Hansen to whom he was loving and supportive to until she passed away a month ago. In the past few years he incurred several health challenges but repeatedly bounced back after rehab, surprising his doctors and family members. This was consistent with his life-resilient to the end. In January he fell and broke his hip and struggled mightily to recover, but when he learned that his beloved Norma had passed away while he was in rehab, he finally seemed to let go and slowly declined over the past few weeks. They had enjoyed their time together and traveled often to Idaho and California.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 3rd at the Wasatch Lawn Funeral Home, 3401 Highland Drive in Salt Lake City. He will be buried at that location after the service where friends may call one hour prior to services.

I used Keith as my accountant from the time I started my business in 1964 until 1983. During that time I built his new office building for him. Keith was a great advisor, and I truly enjoyed my association with him. Keith was a positive influence on my life.

Nearly fifty years ago, Mr. Hansen hired me to work for his accounting firm. He was a great mentor and I enjoyed working with him and learning from him. I'll always be grateful for the opportunity he provided me. He's a good man.
