Kevin Wightman Obituary

1958 ~ 2012
Our loving son, father, brother and uncle left his earthly home in Truckee, CA, on January 25, 2012. Kevin was born September 2, 1958, to Ronald and Ilse Schumann Wightman. He graduated from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, UT. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Debra von Zink on September 25, 1987, in Tahoe, California. They were married 21 years, later divorced. A daughter, Kira F. Wightman, was born of this marriage.
Kevin had a great love for skiing and became a world-cup skier and coach, seeing the world on the world cup circuit. He appeared as a stunt man in the movie "Hot Dog." Whatever Kevin did he made it work. He had successful businesses in window washing and carpet cleaning. He made many friends. He made the Tahoe area his home for over 30 years.
Kevin is survived by his daughter, Kira, Salem, OR, his parents, Salt Lake City, UT, one sister, IlseRae Baldwin, Salt Lake City, three brothers, Ronald P. Wightman, Los Angeles, CA, Richard D. Wightman (Trudi), Gilbert, AZ, and Michael A. Wightman (Diedra), Bristow, VA., nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., PST, in the LDS Tahoe North Ward, 7851 No. Kingswood Drive, Kings Beach, CA.

Sadly my husband and I, Donna and Vance Lura, just saw you at the LDS Church in Truckee under the most horrible of circumstances. Kevin was a friend and a truly fun and happy guy. He spent his first Thanksgiving in Tahoe at my house in 1980 before all of us got married and had kids. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for both our familes and you when everyone in the Highlands had pneumonia. It was a treat to have met you then. There are no words to describe how heart felt our sympathies are. No parent should outlive their child. Our prayers for you at this unbelievable time and we will surely look you up when we are out your way. The Lura Family Vance, Donna and Gavin

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I had the great pleasure of meeting Kevin 2 years ago and sharing in his amazing garden here in Truckee. We were just talking about his roses last week and how beautiful they were this past summer.
May your family find some comfort in knowing what a wonderful man he was, he was kind, gentle, funny and he will be missed.

When I moved to St. George eight years ago, I made it a habit of checking the obituaries in the Deseret News to check on "my people". When I read Kevin's name, I said in my mind, "Oh, I hope that isn't Ron and Ilse's Kevin." Sadly, it is and I just had to write a note to tell you I am sorry to hear it. I remember Kevin as a fine young man, polite, with lots of energy. We had some good times in the old EMC 5th Ward. Over the years, Ron told me at tax time of how Kevin was excelling in his skiing... along with brief updates on the other children. It is NEVER easy to lose someone we love regardless of their age, so I send my sympathy and my wish for the comfort and understanding the Lord can send if we seek it. - Karol G. Chase
