Lila Marcel Bankhead, 89, of Murray, UT died peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2018 at Canyon North Care Center in Bountiful, UT.
Lila was born to Nathan and Henrietta (Leggroan) Bankhead on August 21, 1928 in Salt Lake City. She attended and graduated from Murray High School in 1946 where she was an active member of the student body. While attending Murray High School, she was a member of the chorus where she performed operettas and was a member of the softball and track teams. After high school, she played softball for the Utah Shamrocks which was the oldest amateur organized team in Utah sports and one of the earliest organized teams in the U.S. She worked in the retail industry in several capacities for various businesses.
Lila was an active member of the Murray Baptist Church and she spent much of her time helping anyone in need. She was an avid bowler well into her 70's; enjoyed reading and attending Jazz games.
Lila is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Afton Ellis, Helen Stewart, Robert Bankhead and Nathan Bankhead.
Lila is survived by a son, Perry (Katherine) of Salt Lake City; brothers, William and Eugene Bankhead of Murray and Stanley Bankhead of Salt Lake City; one sister, Nancy Caldwell of Ridgefield, Washington; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends and family may call on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, Murray, UT prior to the funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens. Please share condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
