Lotolua Fonua Obituary
Lotolua Fonua
1958 ~ 2018
Our beloved husband and father, Lotolua Fonua, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 10, 2018. He was born the oldest of nine children, in Faleloa, Ha'apai, Tonga on November 3, 1958 to Moleni Tanginoa Fonua and Temalisi Uinise Finau. Most of his life was spent in Tonga which included, attending Liahona High School and serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission. He eventually met and married his sweetheart, Sofaia Tu'ipulotu Kaivei, on December 20, 1984 in the Tonga Nuku'alofa Temple. Together, they have four children: Moleni, Crystailina I, Paula and Crystailina II. He served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in various capacities and assignments. He was an amateur boxer and is a great fan of rugby, having played himself at one time. He had a love of the outdoors, whether it was working on the family farm or boating and applying his knowledge of different fishing techniques. Lotolua was also a craftsman and applied himself in learning building construction and concrete, which he utilized when working for the Ha'apai LDS Service Center for 22 years. He retired just prior to moving his family permanently to the United States in 2012. We could say so many wonderful things about this man but he was above all, a devoted husband, father and, grandfather whom we love and will be greatly missed! Lotolua's kindness and mild-mannered disposition was his gift as a leader amongst his siblings. He lived and offered his moral support in quiet servitude and a simple smile, which earned him their unwavering esteem and loyalty. He is survived by his eternal love, Tu'ipulotu and their children: Moleni (Lupe), Paula (Aita) and Crystailina II and the greatest joys of his life, his two grandchildren, Sofaia and Crystailina. He is also survived by his mother, Temalisi, and brothers and sisters: Valeti, Ofa, Sitaleki, Selita, Leisi, Sosefina, Sila and Klaus. He is preceded in death by his father, Moleni Tanginoa Fonua, and his daughter, Crystailina I. We offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to the members of the Hunter 13th Ward for their love and support and to Dr. Farrant Sakaguchi, for the medical care provided to our father. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., Hunter 13th Ward, 4440 West 3300 South, West Valley City, Utah. Friends may call upon and visit with the family during the Viewing from 8-11:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
