1929 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Maurine Swenson
9/29/1929 ~ 1/6/2018
Maurine Woodruff Swenson, our beloved mom, was surrounded by her family in the early morning hours on January 6, 2018. Shortly thereafter, Heaven gained the most beautiful angel.
She was born September 29, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Ensign and Leota Miller Woodruff.
Mom married Kenneth L. Swenson on November 4, 1949; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage prior to his death in April, 2005.
She was employed at Hunt Enterprise and later for the State of Utah Third District Court. Mom enjoyed her work and the many lasting friendships it provided.
Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who diligently served in many callings. She spent many years as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her great faith was openly shared through her testimony of the Gospel. This was a lifelong gift to her posterity.
Mom enjoyed a simple life. She loved reading, crocheting and staying apprised on current, world-wide events in addition to Church History.
Her family was her life. She developed and embraced a unique bond with each grandchild--always teaching by example. While her compassion, insight and wisdom will be greatly missed, it is her unconditional love which defines her legacy.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ken; two sons, Randy and Paul; parents; and one brother, Keith.
Survived by her four children, Deborah (Gary) Whetton, Cassandra (Lynn) Ritchie, Joseph (Patricia) Swenson, Paula (Richard) Merrill; 17 Grandchildren; 25 Great-Grandchildren. She was also survived by brother, Wilford; and sisters, Lorna and Carol.
Our deepest gratitude to the staff at Utah Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care while attending to Mom.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, 12:30 p.m. at the LDS Chapel, 6300 So. 700 W.
Friends may call Friday, January 12, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St; and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
