Nancy Burgon Obituary

Nancy Lou Garrard Burgon 1929 ~ 2010 Nancy Lou Garrard Burgon, age 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 11, 2010.Nancy was born July 19, 1929, in Murray, UT, to Warren Joseph and Eva Millicent Shirley Garrard. She was raised in Lake Point, UT, and attended schools in Tooele, Wasatch Academy, and Utah State University. While working at the LDS Hospital, she met and later married Grant C. Burgon on May 19, 1955, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their first home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she shared her artistic and creative talents with the community through her beautiful parade floats, store front window décor, and beautiful flower gardens. She developed her talents into a lifelong love of sewing, fashion, homemaking, and art. Nancy was able to turn weeds and ordinary items into things of beauty. She loved to host artists in her homes in Idaho Falls and Orem and enjoyed working with the Miss Idaho Falls pageant. In 1968, Grant and Nancy moved their family of four children to Orem and have resided there since. Nancy was known for her beautifully creative Christmas trees that adorned the lobby at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and the Festival of Trees and, of course, her home. She served diligently in the LDS Church in a variety of callings including in the Relief Society Presidency, the MIA, as a Stake Missionary, and as a temple worker. She had a genuine love of genealogy and worked diligently as a Genealogical Specialist at the BYU and Church Family History Centers. Nancy and Grant served a full-time mission in the England London Mission from 1988 to 1990 in the Family History Center. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, four children: Suzanne (Paul) Allen, St. George; Bruce (Jeanne), Orem; Jannie (Cameron) Smith, Boise; and James (Janell) Orem; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mavis (Sam) Worley and Jacque (Gordon) Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, and her grandson Jordan Allen. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m., Dec. 18, at the Sharon Third Ward Chapel, 445 S. 700 E., Orem. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State St., Orem, and also prior to services 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
