Ryan Bonnett Obituary

1978 ~ 2013
Ryan Max Bonnett, 34, of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away among loved ones in his home on February 26, 2013 after a long and courageous struggle with leukemia.
Ryan was born to James Max Bonnett and Carol Evans Pinegar on May 1, 1978 in Provo, Utah. Ryan graduated from Provo High School and married Emily Wilde Bonnett in 1996. They were married for 16 years and were very happy. They have two young sons. Ryan worked as a systems administrator, storage architect, and project manager for several technology companies in Utah County. He loved his career and the friendships he made throughout that time. He was a respected and trusted manager, and loved working as part of a team.
Ryan loved learning throughout his life, and was interested in practically everything. A few of his interests included philosophy, nature, technology, writing, investing, woodworking, and history. Ryan was wise beyond his years. He was a man of great personal integrity. He was a true friend and had an impact on many people's lives for good, even in his relatively short time here. He was a gifted communicator. He cherished his wife and valued his friendship with her above all else. He was a good father to his sons and loved spending time with them. He had many dear and close friends. Ryan will be remembered for his sense of humor, his effort to help others choose happiness, his example of strength and positivity during trials, and his lifelong pursuit of seeking and sharing wisdom.
In Ryan's words from a blog he kept of his thoughts and progress during the past two years: "Primarily, I find happiness in serving others or in allowing others to serve me. My purpose has left me fulfilled and happy. I have a wonderful life. I have been spectacularly fortunate. I love my family, friends, career, home, opportunities, open mind, and the age in which I live. My philosophy and purpose have combined to create a wonderful life. I am often filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and appreciation for the life I have, and have had."
Ryan is survived by his wife, Emily Wilde Bonnett; his two sons, Jonas and Max; his siblings, Jennifer Bonnett, Scott Bonnett, Terri Bonnett Jones, and Erin Bonnett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Max Bonnett and Carol Evans Pinegar; and his grandparents, Max and Elaine Bonnett, and Jesse and Alene Evans.
A gathering to celebrate Ryan's life with close friends and family will be held in the coming week.

I had the privilege of working with Ryan at Flowserve. When things got tough, he was someone you could always count on. He was kind, thoughtful friend, and I am truly saddened by his passing.

I found out about Ryan this morning when I looked him up on LinkedIn--we were friends in high school, then again at BigPlanet. Three or four years ago we had a fun long chat about life, philosophy, Radiohead and the Beatles that I remember fondly.

I read this recently in Marcus Aurelius' Meditations:

"All that thou seest will quickly perish, and those who have been spectators of its dissolution will very soon perish too. And he who dies at the extremest old age will be brought into the same condition with him who died prematurely."

Even if it's true, I still wish Ryan had lived to the extremest old age.

My heartfelt sympathies for all of Ryan's loved ones.

Ryan, we miss you already! Your wise words will remain to remind us of your wit, amazing intellect, and curiosity for life. When I first met you, I was shocked-- you were so loud and out there, when Emily was so soft and gentle ;) But the more time I spent with the two of you, the more I realized what a perfect fit the two of you were! I love the love you two have-- it is what I have with my Ryan, too-- and I know we are so lucky to have it.

Emily, my heart hurts so much that you no longer get to hold your Ryan in person. I love you & hope someday, somehow, you can feel the peace I know Ryan wants you to have.

Max & Jonas, your daddy is one of the bravest men I know. He's also one of the smartest men I know and one of my favorite people with whom to share a conversation. Your daddy was a great thinker & a person of true integrity. I know he loved being your daddy & the only good thing about his sickness was that he got to spend more time at home with you boys. I know he loved you boys very much & will be proud of each of you in whatever you endeavor to do, so long as you are true to yourself.

Much love to each of you!

Ryan will be greatly missed. I had the pleasure to work with him at Omniture. Ryan was a great mentor in the brief time we were co-workers. I had hoped that we would be able to work together again.

On Friday afternoons, usually not long after lunch, he would nearly always walk by my desk and ask incredulously: "What are you still doing here? Go home!"

Ryan had a self-assured confidence for work and life that was infectious.

I was so glad to have known Ryan. He was such a great friend to everyone! I am sad that he has left such a sweet wife, Emily, and his two boys, but know that it's only for a short time. Thoughts and prayers for the Bonnett family.

Emily,
Your husband's strength, energy and passion were uplifting for me when we worked together at Mozy. I am surprised at how much I miss that smile. Please tell Jonas and Max he was deeply respected. You and your family are in my prayers.
