Thomas Fabrizio Obituary
June 17, 1927 ~ June 12, 2012
Thomas Fabrizio died June 12, 2012, of natural causes at his home in West Jordan, Utah, just five days from celebrating his 85th birthday. Tom was born June 17, 1927 to Charlie D. and Rosie Defa Fabrizio in Hanna, Duchesne County, Utah, and the second of seven sons. Tom married his high school sweetheart, Flora Essie Lefler, April 2, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, on November 1, 1954. Tom and Flora were truly best friends and partners in everything they did, including loving and raising their large family, serving in the LDS church, and working side by side in their business ventures together until recently when they both retired. As a true patriot, Tom honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After his discharge, he studied business at Stevens Henager College and ran the family store, Fabrizio & Sons, Mercantile, for forty years in Hanna, Utah. He was a gentle, generous and compassionate man of great honesty and integrity in all of his business dealings, often lending food and gas to those who could not afford it.
From the time Tom joined and embraced The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 26, he exemplified true Christianity by his deep abiding faith and total commitment to his Savior. He served as a bishop twice and as a counselor in the stake presidency for about 14 years. Tom and Flora were also able to fulfill a life-long goal of serving a mission in Milan, Italy, the country of his parent's birth. He felt deeply connected to his parents and their past, as well as feeling the joy of bringing new Italian members to the gospel he had embraced.
Tom will be remembered for many things. His daily routines and his disciplined life, his love of fishing, country music, boxing and the Utah Jazz, his passion for family and genealogy, but perhaps the most important thing was his philosophy of "no regrets." He died a content, happy, and peaceful man.
He is survived by his wife, Flora; children, Toni (Steve Ogden) of So. Jordan, Levere (Sue Forsgren) of Sandy, Rosalyn (Craig Thomas) of Tabiona, Rick (Betty Jean Sam), Rex (Michelle Shaw) both of So. Jordan, Annette (Bart Gines), Travis (Ranae Gines) both of St. George, and Deno (Melissa Brown) of Sandy; two brothers, Arthur of Vernal and Neil (Carma) of Bountiful; 46 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren; and aunt Tracy of Hanna. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Delbert, Dwight, Dwayne, an unnamed stillborn brother, as well as two granddaughters, Amy Ogden and Terra Thomas, and a sister-in-law, Jean.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at noon at the Tabiona Ward Chapel in Tabiona, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing on the evening of Monday, June 18th from 6-8 p.m. at the River Ridge LDS Chapel located on 10200 South 1300 West, South Jordan, Utah, (adjacent to the Jordan River Temple) and Tues, June 19th 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church in Tabiona. Interment will be in the Tabiona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that you send your donations to the Perpetual Education Fund with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
