David Atkin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 25 to Oct. 26, 2003.
David Ray Atkin 11/20/49 ~ 10/20/03  A wonderful man was taken from us too early due to complications of diabetes. Dave was two weeks away from receiving a kidney transplant that we hoped would restore to us the fun energetic man that we will remember him to be. Dave was the first son born to Howard R. Atkin and Christine (George) Edmunds. He is preceded in death by his father. Dave will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Cathy, his two daughters Stacy (Israel) Jaramillo, Alexandra, and his son Dustin. He was a super grandpa to Josey, Jaden, Elijah, Makenzie and September. His family includes sisters Connie (Don) Conroy and Carol (Terry) Anderson, brothers Christopher (Mary Ann) and Howard (Tracy) Atkin Jr., plus numerous extended members who will miss him dearly. Dave was a registered nurse for home health care. He always went beyond what was needed with his patients and they all were very close to him. With his witty sense of humor, even through hard or painful times Dave could crack a joke and make everyone laugh. He found humor in everything. We know he is laughing now. The love that he gave to his family will remind us to cherish each other every day. Please join us for a celebration of Dave's life at his favorite restaurant, The Pagoda, 26 North E. Street from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, October 26th where a light buffet will be served. In lieu of flowers, Dave's children would like to encourage you to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association. Your donation could change lives. Thank you. Dad, we love you. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

Ten short days ago, David left his wife, children, brothers, sisters, and parents, for a place free from pain and sickness. His passing left a gigantic hole in our lives that will never be filled. My brother was a wonderful person who would have done anything for anyone. There won't be a day the rest of my life that I won't think of him and thank God he was my brother. David, we love and miss you. God bless you always.

Back about a hundred years ago, before Dave was a nurse, he learned to cut hair. I was lucky enough to be his instructor. He was delightful, fun, and dedicated. I am so sorry to hear that after years of healing others, he died just days away from a possible cure. Please accept my sincere sympathy. He was a great guy!

Dave was my mother's nurse while she was bedbound her last three years. His thoughtful, joyful care sustained us through her final hour. Through many dark days and storms, he was steadfast, bringing light and humor. I couldn't have done it without him. Whenever I feel the sun on my face, I'll remember Dave Atkin.
