Obituary Condolences

Edith Bloom 1919 ~ 2011 Edith Bloom, 91 years old, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born December 27, 1919 in Tucson, Arizona to Nathan and Tessie Elster. She attended Tucson High School and graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in Education. In 1943, she married her husband of 55 years, Philip Abraham Bloom. Phil Bloom from Hibbing, Minnesota was serving in the military in Tucson when they met. They had three sons, Bert, Martin, and Nathan. In 1968 the family moved from Tucson to Salt Lake City and moved in the house where mom occupied until her passing. Mom taught school in Tucson with home economics and Spanish as her favorite subjects. Upon moving to Salt Lake City she continued her career as a substitute teacher and as a Religious teacher. She worked for approximately 25 years at the ZCMI downtown store. Mom was a very loving person who developed long lasting relationships from her time in Tucson and Salt Lake City. She was never too busy to help in religious and community events. She was a person who couldn't say no. This was evidenced with being a den mother for the cub scouts and her religious school activities. In a rarity today Mom never learned or cared to drive but she was always able to meet her commitments regardless of location. She enjoyed the family trips to California. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Bloom, her sister Sadie Elster, and her brothers Fred and Harry Elster. She is survived by sons Bert Bloom of Denver; Martin Bloom of Clovis, California; and Nathan Bloom of Salt Lake City. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Brian, David, James, Michael, Michele, Tess and Tyler, two daughters-in-laws Arlene and Linda, and seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ashlee, Trace, Madison, Nick, Morgan and Gracie. The family wishes to thank Lifepath Hospice and Kathy Jackson and Family for the Loving care they provided. Funeral services will be held on July 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. The services will be held at the Montefiore Section of the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Arrangements will be handled by Evans and Early Mortuary.
