1914 ~ 2012
Flora Bumgarner Friend, age 98, passed away April 20, 2012 peacefully in her sleep. She was born February 26, 1914 in Millers Creek, Wilkes County, NC. She was preceded by her father Millard Fillmore Bumgarner and mother Lilla Pansy Pardue. She graduated from Appalachian University with a masters degree in counseling psychology and taught until she retired at age 65. She was married to Drury Hutcheson Friend, September 25, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC. She has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints most of her life.
She is survived by two sons, Jack Bumgarner Friend (Elfriede Diederich) of Salt Lake City, UT and Robert Hutcheson Friend of Mesa, AZ and daughter-in-law Dianna Friend of Liberty, NC. One sister Iris Carole Bumgarner Pitts, Atlanta, GA, and one sister-in-law, Betty L. Bumgarner, Grand Prairie, TX are still living. Flo also has 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
