Layton / St. George, Utah-Earl Joseph Davis was born November 17, 1921 in Carey, Idaho to Jennie Madeline Timmins and Joseph Godsall Davis. Earl spent many wonderful years at his fish creek ranch home in Idaho. He saved money to go on a mission but Pearl Harbor changed his plans and he enlisted as a Marine in the LDS Platoon. He served for four years in the Pacific Front as a machine gunner. He saved many American lives protecting ships form kamikaze attacks.
After returning home he met and married Betty Deffenbaugh and had two daughters, Katherine and Cynthia. He lived many years in Hamilton, Montana and worked as a technician at Rocky Mountain Laboratory.
After retiring, he moved to St. George, Utah and married Dena Kirkland Nokes. Earl and Dena spent many years doing genealogy and temple work for Earl's ancestors. They served a mission to the Family History Center of St. George.
Earl loved birds, gardening, golf, and his cat, Jim Boy. He served many people and was very kind and generous. He was always so thankful for his family and friends and appreciated everything they did for him.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dena; a sister, Thelma Ralls; brothers: Donald and Lowell; a daughter, Cynthia Joyce Jordan; a grandson, Robert Joseph Hart; and a great-granddaughter, Amber Elaine Perry.
He is survived by a sister, Doris Barton Meacum; a daughter, Katherine (Stephen) Hart; grandsons: Monroe (Kristen) Hart; Aaron (Tiesha) Hart; Stephen Isaac Hart, and Michael Brett Kester; and granddaughters: Jennifer (Bryce) Perry; Rebecca Hart; Rheann (Alex) Visis; Velvet (Beau) Romminger; and great-grandchildren: Valerie Ann Hart; Sierra Dawn Hart; Stockton Jasper Perry; Kayden Clarence Hart; Joshua Joseph Hart; Mykel Ann Hart; Keegan Quinn Stough; Easton William Romminger; Jayden Michael Kester; and Luna Adora Visis.
Earl passed on in the Beehive Home of Assisted Living in Layton, Utah on February 12, 2014. The family is very grateful for the kind care of the staff at Beehive and the Brighton Hospice medical team.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 9:30 a.m., with a viewing at 8:30 a.m., at the Kaysville LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 50 West 331 South, Kaysville, Utah.
