1930 ~ 2014|
This world just lost an amazing woman. Kathryn Francis Bourne Leopardi (Kay) passed away March 3rd, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a short illness. Kay was born 4/30/1930 in New York City. During her nurses training, she met the man of her dreams, Enrico A. Leopardi. She earned her diploma as a Registered Nurse, and Enrico earned his MD. They married in May of 1951, and in '56, they moved to Dove Creek, Colorado to work with the Public Health Service; Enrico as the rural Doctor, and Kay as his Nurse. They moved from there to New Mexico, North Carolina, Michigan, Florida, Montana, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, and back to Utah. Her greatest achievement was being the mother of nine children, where we were all born in these different states, and experienced the excitement along the way
Kay lived life to the fullest, skiing, camping, hiking, and teaching all nine kids how to appreciate the great outdoors. She worked as a Ski Hostess at Snowbird Utah for many years, sharing her love of skiing and the mountains to visitors from all over the world. A true Irish Lass, she had the all knowing Liquid Blue Eyes, that would sparkle with life when she would apply her Hot Pink Lipstick! She had a photographic memory and could remember every number, account number, address and birthday, right up to the moment she passed. Everyone who knew Kay remembers her for her loving heart and rock solid core. Strong and fiercely independent, she was the cement that held the family together; the matriarch to whom we turned to in times of need. She never turned her back on her family. Her spirit was larger than life. She especially beamed as a grandmother; the little children were the apples of her eyes. In our hearts', she was the greatest mother who ever walked this earth.
Kay is preceded in death by Enrico A. Leopardi MD, who passed away in April 2009. She is survived by her nine children: Mark Leopardi, Helen (Mike) McMahan, David Leopardi, Anita Leopardi (Jim), Julie (Mike) Anderson, Tom Leopardi, Kathleen (Cory) Anderson, Gina Cross, Caroline Leopardi. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren Andrew Thompson Landerghini, David Ayala, Sharon Leopardi, Adam Ellowitz, Molly Ellowitz, Holly Leopardi, Alex Leopardi, Alicia Leopardi, Rachel Leopardi, Thomas Krantz, Max Anderson, and Noah Gardner. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Sofia Landerghini, and Grady Bates.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, March 10th at 11:00 am at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East Salt Lake City, Utah. A private wake will follow. Funeral Directors Neil O'Donnell & Sons.
