John Jared Coons Obituary
1978 ~ 2014
John Jared Coons, 35, passed away from injuries sustained in a cycling accident the morning of March 12, 2014. John was the most honest, caring, loyal, fun, patient, dedicated and loving person we have ever been blessed to know. He had a true missionary heart; was a friend to everyone and we are all better and stronger individuals for having known this great man. John was short in stature but a giant among men and immensely loved by his community and ward family in Herriman.
Born to James Daniel Coons and Kris Hawkins in Provo, Utah on June 3, 1978, John was the second oldest of six children. He was always an active and determined kid with a competitive spirit. After graduating from Hunter High School, John served an LDS mission in Bolivia. His greatest fulfillment in life was marrying his soul mate and best friend, Naomi, on Sept. 28, 2002 in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. John received a BA degree in History in 2003 from the University of Utah. The couple became residents of Herriman in 2004 and has three children. John worked as Partner Manager in the Legal Division for HotDocs. Outside of work, John was an active member and exemplar of his LDS faith. The young men of his ward referred to John as "Brother Awesome" because of his outstanding service and example to them.
John always enjoyed being outdoors. He developed a passion for cycling and rock climbing. He recently completed running his first Ragnar Relay Series. His other hobbies included playing basketball, football, skiing and playing soccer with his sons. He also looked forward to spending time with his daughter, who he called his little "principessa." He also coached his son's soccer team - the Tornadoes. John enjoyed his plentiful collection of beanie hats and watching BYU games. John lived his life to the fullest and was thankful for every day. His playful teasing and contagious smile will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his loving wife, Naomi, and children: sons, Huck, 10, Atticus, 7 and daughter, Josephine, 5; father: James Daniel Coons; mother and stepfather: Kris and Eli Kit Hawkins; grandmother: Kay Thoreson; sisters: Charity Huffaker and husband KeVan, Beth Nelson and husband Jon; brothers: Kenny Coons and wife Buffy, Samuel Lee Coons, Seth Norman Coons and countless other relatives. John is preceded in death by his grandfathers: Haakon Norman Thoreson, Lee Avon Coons; grandmother: Betty Gans Coons; cousin: Kelen McWhorter.
Naomi and her children would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and concern for her and her family.
