Fred Vernon Houston, 84, died March 14, 2014 in Vancouver, WA.
He was born June 15, 1929, to Dr. Vernon Frederick and Myrtle Matilda Coddington Houston. He married Bonnie Jean Jensen June 19, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After her death he later married Shirley Rae Miller February 14, 2003.
He was an active member of the LDS church and was a sealer in the St. George Temple. He served his country throughout his life, first as an Army Veteran and then worked for the Department of Defense as a scientific advisor.
His family knew him as "Papa" and will be remembered as a loving and kind follower of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, American Fork; two sons and a daughter; Reed Fred (Stephanie) Houston, Camas, WA; Gayle (Kay) Adams, Sammamish, WA; Steven Jay (Keri) Houston, Washougal, WA; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Elizabeth "Betty" McTague, Joyce Curtis.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 6th Ward at 300 North 100 East where friends may call 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. A viewing will be held Friday, March 21st 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork.
