1934 ~ 2014
Wayne B. Erickson of American Fork, Utah passed away in his home from Pneumonia and CHF Friday, April 4, 2014. He was a 14 year stroke victim suffering partial paralysis.
Born December 12, 1934 in Smithfield, Utah to Alfred Alan Erickson and Maggie Balls. He was the 8th of 9 children.
Wayne served 2 tours of duty in the Army. He married Sandra Ellis June 7, 1963 in the Logan Temple. Their first home was spent on a Forest Fire Lookout in CleElum, Washington. Wayne graduated in Forestry from Utah State University in 1966. He loved his 30 year career with BLM as a Wilderness Specialist and Recreation Planner. Hiking, fishing, and hunting captured his heart. He was an outdoor guy with a keen knowledge and recall of Western History, Wilderness, Indians, Trails, Wildlife, Western Geography, and Archeology.
His family was his first love and joy. David (Elizabeth Dykstra), Bryce (Gloria Maez), Marty (Patti Grace), Todd (Laurie Schlensker), Sue (Alan Rutherford), Laura (Tom Pretto) and Will (engaged to Felicia Draper). His grandchildren are Rianneke, Gunnar, Caden, Rylee, Alleah, Siena, Abigail, Serena, Tyler, Lucy and Ellie. His 2 sisters also remain, Ruby LaPray and Lois (Marriner) Rigby both of St. George, UT and a very loved mother-in-law, Lucy Ellis.
During his life he had many choice callings in the LDS church. Serving as a Home Teacher was his favorite. He belonged to Sons of Utah Pioneers, a Fireside group and a Dinner Group both for 18 years.
The family is indebted to Hospice/Dignity group and Caring Hands for their valuable professional service rendered to our dad and husband during the last month of his life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the AF 13th Ward, 975 North 60 East. A viewing will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial in the Highland Cemetery.
