Aug. 24, 1926 ~ April 14, 2014|
Wilma Clark Hill passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 24, 1926 in Logan, Utah, the sixth of seven children born to Lucius and Miriam Adelia Clark, all of whom have preceded her in death. Wilma grew up in Idaho, graduating from Ririe High School in 1944, during WWII. She then moved to Sacramento, CA, where she lived with her sister and was employed by the government until after the war. Later, she moved to Provo, UT where she attended BYU.
Wilma married Donal Joseph Hill on August 14, 1948. They made their first home in Seattle, WA, where two daughters were born. In 1952 they moved to Fresno, CA, where seven more children were born. Two of them died as infants: a son John, born in 1954, and a daughter Karen, born in 1963.
Wilma was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings both in the ward and stake, as well as serving as a senior missionary in South Carolina. Wilma's greatest joy came from time spent with her family. Generations have shared Scrabble games, pumpkin carving parties, milkshakes, and Family Home Evenings. Even a simple visit at Grandma's house felt special. Phone calls or letters to her family and friends always ended with, "I love you."
In 1980 when her husband became ill with cancer, Wilma spent seven years caring for him before he passed away on May 31, 1987. Wilma was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julie, wife of David Erickson, when she passed away in 2001. In 1992 Wilma moved to Provo, where she became involved in volunteer work. She served with Project Read at Rock Canyon Elementary School and the BYU Museum of Art. She especially enjoyed her many years of service at the MTC and the Provo Temple.
Wilma Hill is survived by six children: Peggy Ryskamp and husband George; Susan Roecker and husband Frederick; Betty Hawkins and husband Kimball; Nancy Hazard and husband Gregory; Donna Hill; son David Hill, and wife Melanie; 24 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
