Philip Maughn Moody, 77, died on June 1, 2014 in Springville, Utah after heroically battling eight years with pancreatic cancer. Philip, born April 25, 1937 in Sutherland Utah, was the 12th child of Marie Thurmon Moody and Marvin Juel Moody. He married Betty Lea Bennett on December 20, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. After receiving his PhD from the U of U, they made their home in Lexington, Kentucky. He worked at the university for nearly 30 years and loved his academic work and watching Kentucky basketball. He took a sabbatical in 1991 to teach at Kuwait University which extended for 12 years. Philip loved the people of Kentucky and Kuwait! Philip was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was always active in church affairs. He served as a stake president in Kentucky and patriarch in three stakes. A mission was served with his wife in the Washington DC Temple.
He is survived by his wife Betty, two sons, and three daughters, Kyle Moody of California, Mark (Sherrill) Moody of Kentucky, Kristin (Tom) Gneiting of Utah, Jill (Clay) Emery of Arizona, and Michelle Moody of California. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Philip taught his family how to love the Lord and serve others unconditionally. His love for others could be felt until the end.
Funeral: 11:00 am Friday, June 6, 2014 at Spring Creek Stake Center, 760 N 400 E, Springville, Utah. Viewing: 6-8 pm Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Berg Mortuary, 185 E Center, Provo, Utah and at the church Friday from 9:30-10:45 am. Condolences:
