Joel Reynolds Cannon Sr. Obituary
1937 - 2014
Joel Reynolds Cannon passed away unexpectedly June 11, 2014 at age 76 after suffering from various ailments. He was living in Independence, Missouri at the time of his death, after recently moving from Salt Lake City.
Joel was born December 9, 1937 in Salt Lake City to Warren C. and Elizabeth Reynolds Cannon. He attended East High School, University of Utah, BYU and earned a masters degree in agricultural economics from Utah State University. He was employed by the LDS Church for most of his life. As a young man, he was a wonderful and enthusiastic LDS missionary to the people of Germany. His love for missionary work remained with him throughout his life. His family and his service to the Church meant everything to Joel. He served on the High Council for many years, in a bishopric, as High Priest Group Leader, indexer and finally as a Nursery leader. He was a meek man in the best sense of the word and to his family was completely unselfish. Joel was very much loved in the wards in which he resided and served. People gravitated towards Joel because of his loving, kind nature.
Joel was preceded in death by his son, George and is survived by his wife Lynne and their five children: Steven Cannon (Tamara) New Canaan, CT; Sally Cannon, North Salt Lake; Anne Cannon, Manhattan, KS; Alice (Victor) Correa, Butler, Missouri and Joel Cannon Jr. (Emily) Salt Lake City and nine grandchildren (Sacha, Alima, Christian, Austin, Annika, Mya, Ashton, Truman and Tenney). He is also survived by his four siblings: Roger (Jane) Cannon, Gayle (Richard) Hughes, Hal (Teresa Jordan) Cannon and Carolyn (late Ted) Jenkins.
Viewing will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, SLC, UT on Friday June 13 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
