1918 ~ 2014
Delbert Ray Allsop, our devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather returned home to our loving Heavenly Father on July 24, 2014 at the age of 96 following extended visits with all of his children, and many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Delbert was born in Sandy, UT on April 12, 1918 to Myrle Allsop and Veloy Bateman. As a child he worked at his father's service station at 90th South and State St. It was there that he learned his auto repair skills and his expert handyman skills. Delbert attended Jordan High School where he met his beloved wife Afton. He attended the University of Utah and became an Electrical Engineer working for Westinghouse in Pennsylvania and Utah, and for Nevada Power in Las Vegas, NV. Delbert loved to play golf and could be found on the course into his 90's. He loved music, square dancing, bowling and traveled extensively across the United States and throughout Europe. He enjoyed family history and served as a Family History Missionary in his golden years.
Delbert is survived by wife Lola O'Driscoll; children, Kay Wilcox (Carold; deceased) of Tyler, TX, Lynne Rothey (Lon) of Escondido, CA, Ray Allsop of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and his brother Reed Allsop (Marge) of Murray, UT. Delbert is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Afton Nilsson Allsop (1918-1992), his parents, and sisters, Lois Dea, and Gladys Hind.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, UT. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy, UT.
