Colonel Clawson was my CO in Viet Nam and one of the finest Marines i have ever know. The Marines Hymn states that the gates of heaven are guarded by US Marines, He will be the Commanding Officer.

Roger and I served together in the First Battalion Ninth Marines (1/9) in Vietnam in 1966. At the time he was the battalion communications officer. Additionally, he was called by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a priesthood group leader in the vicinity of Danang. He was a splendid man then as he was a splendid man throughout his life. In later years we both served in leadership positions in the 1/9 Association, the national organization made up mostly of marines and navy corpsmen who fought together during the Vietnam War. For many years his active interest in and service toward marines and marine corpsmen has been exemplary. He and Carolyn have been special friends throughout the years. God bless you, Carolyn, and your fine family.
