Mark McKean Shepherd (63) of South Jordan, Utah returned to live with his Heavenly Father on December 4, 2017 after a short battle with stomach cancer.
He was born February 12, 1954 in Valdosta, Georgia to Lee McKean and LaWana Osborne Shepherd. He married Meg Ann Robertson on August 31, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was the loving father of 6 children and grandfather of 9. Mark graduated from Orem High School, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1990 as a physician and medical director. He practiced internal medicine at Bryner Clinic in Salt Lake City from 1990-2013. He served as the medical adviser for the Salt Lake City South Mission from 2013-2017.
Mark was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including Jordan River Temple worker and family history consultant. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, BYU football, playing the piano, reading, traveling, doing triathlons, and spending time with his family.
Mark is survived by his wife Meg; children Christy (Matt) Lively, Scott (Mystique), Laurie (John) Lawton, Nathan (Jessica), Allison (Jacob) Stevens, and Kyle; 9 grandchildren; his mother and 5 siblings. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services will be held Saturday, December 9 at 12:00 pm at the LDS church at 1239 W. Country Creek Dr in South Jordan, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11-11:45 am as well as Friday evening from 6-8 pm. Interment will be at the South Jordan City Memorial Park.
