RICHARD MAKOFF Obituary
Richard Parver Makoff 1928 ~ 2009 Richard Parver Makoff, our elegant Renaissance gentleman, left this mortal life on Saturday, November 21st. He had great courage and resilience enduring his medical problems but lost his fight with grace. Richard embraced life and loved intellectual conversation, classical music, all sports, and especially golf. He also loved and appreciated beautiful, intelligent women. Richard was born in Salt Lake City, July 23, 1928 to Eugenia and Samuel Makoff, Sr. He graduated from San Rafael Military Academy, Marin Country, California. Richard was admitted to Stanford University, Palo Alto, California at the age of 16 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was also a member of the Stanford golf team and remained loyal to his revered Stanford University throughout his life. After graduation, Richard returned to Salt Lake City to join the family business, Makoff. Richard married Colleen Mortenson, and they had three sons: Richard David, John Harvey, and Robert Evan. They later divorced. In 1967, Richard married Sidney Gibbs Makoff, and they have one son, John Gibbs Makoff. After their marriage, Richard received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah College of Law. He practiced law until his retirement. Richard joined the Salt Lake Country Club when he was 18 years of age and enjoyed the game of golf and cherished his many lifelong friends at the club. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Sam, and his son, Richard David. He is survived by his wife, Sidney, his son John Gibbs Makoff and John's wife, Justine, who is the daughter Richard always wanted, and their two children Dillon and Madison. Richard is also survived by his son, Robert Evan and son John Harvey Makoff and his wife, Toni, and their children Samuel Z, David E. Johnson, Angela M. Oviatt and her husband, Douglas and their three children, Logan, Patrick and Garett. A memorial service for Richard will be held Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 12 o'clock noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive. Following the service, a celebration of Richard's life will be held at Salt Lake Country Club from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Educational Resource Development Council, University of Utah Health Sciences, 540 Arapeen Drive, Suite 120, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
