EARL HILL Obituary
Earl Finlayson Hill 1922 ~ 2009 Earl Finlayson Hill 87, beloved husband, father, and "Papa" passed away peacefully Sunday Dec. 13 2009 with family by his side. He was born June 2nd 1922 in Payson Utah to Jasper and Alice Hill. Earl was the youngest of 13 children and was preceded in death by his siblings: Rulon, Vida, Dora, Erma, Chloris, Nelda, LeRoy, Althea, Kenneth, Lynn, Florence, and Edith. Earl graduated from Payson High, moved to California and worked at Douglas Air Craft. He served an LDS mission to North Central States and spent two years in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he met Ada Jean Holbrook at LDS Business College and waited for her to serve an LDS mission. They married in the Salt Lake Temple June 30, 1948 and had 47 wonderful years together until her death in 1994. He then married Patricia Christensen Bennett and they had six happy years together. After her passing he spent eight joyful years married to Adarene Boulton Riley who survives him. Earl was successful for over 50 years in the furniture industry starting in Bountiful with Ada Jean's family the Holbrook's, at Union Mortuary and Union Furniture. In 1960 he moved his family to Roy and continued in furniture retail and later owned and operated Hills Furniture in Ogden, UT. He loved musicals and singing in harmony and had a fine tenor voice. He freely shared the fruits of his fabulous garden with others. Pheasant hunting and training hunting dogs were favorites as well as sports and reading. He was actively involved in community affairs and served on the Roy City council. Earl had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served faithfully all his life. He served in three Bishoprics and as Bishop of the Roy 10th ward from 1965-71. He served on three High Councils and in many other church callings. He loved to serve in the Temple and attended weekly for over 40 years. Earl and Ada Jean have seven children: Elaine (David) Thomas, Jay (Sheri), Connie (Rick) Haddon, Larry (Sharon), Julianne (Donald) Higgs, Brent (Moana), Barbara (Chuck) Hawkins. He has 38 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Pat's six children, Adarene's five sons and families. In lieu of flowers, Earl asks donations be made to the LDS missionary fund. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Bountiful 2nd Ward Chapel, 650 South 200 East. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Monday morning from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
