Dorothy Bradshaw Watkins 1913 ~ 2009 Dorothy Bradshaw Watkins age 96, passed away quietly on December 29, 2009 at Brighton Gardens in Salt Lake City. Her request to go home didn't get her to her former residence on 22nd East where she lived for over 50 years, but to her Heavenly Home.Dorothy was born on September 16, 1913, in Alberta, Canada, the eldest child of FloydS. and Jennie Chipman Bradshaw. Her siblings followed: Jean (Boyce), deceased, Marjorie (Taylor), Howard, Faye (Davis). Her family returned to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was 12. She graduated from East High School at age 16, and then attended the University of Utah. She focused on business classes which skills she used to work at American Savings and Loan, which was started by her father and other family members. She loved the challenge of helping a banking-type of business succeed at the time of the Depression. Her business smarts and frugality guided her way of living all her life. In December 1940, she married Davis Watkins, a Texan, who had come to Salt Lake with a scarce job offering in hard times. Davis passed away in 1988. She is survived by her children: Patricia (John Roger) Peterson, Kathi (John H.) Nelson, Julie (Jeffrey) Parker, Robert (Peg) Watkins. There are 21 grandchildren who will always remember family reunions livened by "the redhead" who planned the details of good food, fun, and games whether they were Sugar House Park or Sun Valley, Idaho. There are now 25 great-grand children to whom she leaves a legacy of honesty, thrift and work. Giving service to her large family or in the Parley's First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or in community organizations such as the Symphony Guild and the Assistance League is how she lived a very long life. Funeral services, under the direction of Larkin Mortuary, will be held at the Parley's 1st Ward. 2350 So. 2100 East, Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the ward 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. Dorothy loved roses from her garden, but requested a donation to the University of Utah Alumni fund in lieu of flowers.
