GAIL LUCAS Obituary
Gail Borden Lucas 7/12/1916 ~ 1/1/2010 Gail Borden Lucas, 93, of Moreno Valley, CA, passed away January 1, 2010.Gail was born July 12, 1916, to Fred C. Lucas and Lillie May Campbell, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the third of four children. When Gail was two years old, his mother passed away on November 5, 1918 in Salt Lake City in the great flu epidemic of 1918-1919. Gail and his siblings were placed in foster care about two years after his mother's death due to unknown family circumstances. Gail spent many of his younger years living in Woodland, UT with a foster family while his other siblings were in foster care in other locations in Northern Utah. During this time in foster care, the brothers lost contact with their youngest sibling, a sister, due to adoption. She was known to them as Flora. At the age of 18, Gail with his two older brothers, Fred and Roy, made their way to Los Angeles, CA to live with their Grandfather, John Acy Campbell. Later Gail made his way back to Salt Lake City and on September 6, 1942, Gail married Anna Darlene Nordahl of Salt Lake City. Shortly thereafter Gail enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was in the military until the end of the War. After World War II, Gail and Darlene made their home in So. Cal., and finally in 1950, they settled in Downey, CA. Gail worked for Northrop Corp. in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Gail was hired by his final employer, the General Services Administration, where he worked for the Public Building Service until his retirement in 1982. Gail and Darlene lived in Downey for the next 53 years where they were members of the Downey 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In October 2003, they moved to Moreno Valley, CA where they could live close to their son. Both Darlene and Gail lived in Moreno Valley at the time of their passing. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers and his wife Darlene. Gail is survived by his three children, son, Gail B. Lucas, Jr. (Alice) of South Jordan; daughter, F. DeAnn Lucas of West Jordan; son Vaughn L. Lucas (Dorian) of Moreno Valley, CA; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. and viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 S. Highland Drive. On-line condolences at www.larkincares.com.
