Obituary Condolences

Thomas Edward Daniels St. George / Holladay Thomas Edward Daniels, beloved by his family, returned to his Heavenly Father January 17, 2010 due to complications of a rare form of dementia. He was born July 5, 1931 to Clyde and Esther Daniels in Salt Lake City, the third of three boys. He was a life long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon returning home from his mission to Hawaii, he married his sweetheart and eternal companion Elaine Kolby in the Salt Lake Temple Nov. 25, 1952. They later served several missions and enjoyed their time serving together. Tom and Elaine raised seven children. His joy was his family. Countless camping trips and vacations highlighted a home where love was taught and felt. A love for God and his creations was instilled in each of his children. Tom graduated from the University of Utah and worked in Public Relations. He especially loved the 25 years he worked for the LDS Church. His associations and experiences there remained cherished memories. He served in many church callings with grace and distinction. By example he taught his family the joy that service can bring. Tom's greatest loves were Elaine and his children, grandchildren and great-grand children. The gospel, music, travel and the cabin filled his life with joy. He was always busy doing something with a lightness in his step and a purpose in his actions. His legacy of faith, service and work will be embraced by his family and remembered by those who knew him. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Daniels. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine K. Daniels; children: Gordon (Sue) Daniels of Salt Lake City, Tom, Jr. (Sandy) Daniels of Salt Lake City, Ron (Rhonda) Daniels of St. George, Kathy (John) Gillespie of Mesa, AZ, Annette (Jed) Mouritsen of Salt Lake City, Christine Ashton of Salt Lake City, and Maryann (Todd) Udall of Las Vegas, NV; 33 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; and his brother Jack Daniels of Boston, MA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Holladay LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 4601 South 2565 East (Murray-Holladay Road), Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitations will be held Tuesday, January 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
