Obituary Condolences

Roger Grant Young 1947 ~ 2010 Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Roger Grant Young, left this life for his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on August 1, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Venice Parker Young and Grant Wendell Young. He married Trena Ruth Wayman on August 29, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. Roger was not expected to live when he was born, but through the blessings of our Heavenly Father he flourished. He graduated from South High School in 1965. He proudly and honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He was blessed by the Lord to experience many occupations in his lifetime. He loved working in the insurance industry as an underwriter and field representative, then later on as a custodian for the LDS Church. Roger diligently served the Lord in fulfilling his numerous church callings in the ward and stake which included: Young Men's President, Elder's Quorum President, Sunday School teacher, a counselor in several bishoprics, a member of the Stake High Council, and more recently a teacher in the High Priest Group. He loved studying the scriptures, playing the trumpet, model trains, many types of music, watching and playing basketball, baseball, and football and spending lots of time with his family and friends. He inspired all who knew and loved him with his example of courage and faith despite numerous difficult challenges. He will be greatly missed! He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Trena Ruth Wayman Young; children: Diane (H. Lynn) Black, David (Susie) Young, Julie (Scott) Baggaley, Thomas (Allison) Young, Karen Young, Jeffrey Young, Daniel Young; his sister Jan (Kendall) Busk; his brothers Don (Joan) Young, Rodney (Jean) Young, Brian (Diane) Young, Corrie (Cindy) Young; 18 grandchildren: Nathan Black, Samuel Black, Ivyllyn Black, Katherine Black, Jessica Black, Ammon Black, Elyse Black, Brandon Baggaley, Marianne Baggaley, Lance Baggaley, Jayson Grant Baggaley, Rachel Baggaley, Rebecca Young, Meilie Young, Haylee Young, Savanna Young, Meghan Allison Young, and Elizabeth Kate Young. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kimball Ward located at 2280 South 300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening, October 24, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at this same location and on Monday morning one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
