Obituary Condolences

Karen Baxter Boyce 1942 ~ 2011 With great peace and a "thumbs up" on Thursday, February 10, 2011, Karen left family, friends and loved ones to again be reunited with her loving husband, Bryan who passed away in 2006. She was born on September 21, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Kenneth and Lorna Baxter. As a teenager her family moved to Salt Lake City. Karen graduated from Judge Memorial High School and went on to receive her Associate's Degree from Stevens-Henager College. She married Bryan Boyce on November 16, 1964. They spent many years making treasured memories with their dear friends the Arnolds, as well as playing Scrabble with one another, raising two children, and sharing time and stories with their grandchildren. This charming woman was a world class cook collecting cookbooks her whole life and we'll miss those wonderful cakes and treats. Karen was a thoughtful, caring and highly independent woman-her small stature contained enough TNT to keep things interesting for those privileged to know her. Though she suffered through many physical limitations and illnesses at the end of her life, she never wanted to talk about her problems but only what was happening in your life and to tell you how much she loved you-unconditionally. She was the brightest star in many people's lives because of her gracious and giving nature. We'll expect to see that star rising tonight in the western skies. Karen is survived by her son Robert (Lisa), daughter Kara (Jeff) Melvin, sister Shirley Kowalski, three grandchildren Taylor, Bailey and Porter, and many wonderful friends. Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of her life on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Melvin home. Condolences may be sent to the family at
