William Currie "Bill" White Sr. Obituary
William "Bill" Currie White, Sr. 1917 ~ 2011 Bill & Phyllis ~ Together Again Bill White, age 93 died peacefully with his family around him, Feb. 23, 2011 at Garden Terrace. Bill was born Sept. 28, 1917 in Chester, So. Carolina to Nicholas Alonzo and Vilate Currie White. He graduated from South High in Salt Lake, where he met his sweetheart Phyllis Searle. They were married June 21, 1941. He served four years in the UT National Guard and during World War II he served in the 3rd Army Quartermaster Corp in Europe. He worked at Graybar Electric Company for 40 years. Bill joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Feb 15, 1956 with his daughter Nicki. He was later sealed to his family on April 19, 1962 in the Los Angeles Temple. He served in four bishoprics in California and Utah and was a high counselor and Bishop in the Salt Lake S. Cottonwood Ward and Stake. Bill served eight years in the Membership Locator Mission at Church Headquarters. Bill's beloved Phyllis passed away after 56 years of marriage on Sept. 17, 1999. On Feb. 14, 2001 Bill married Cherie McGhie Sorensen. Preceded in death by his parents, a brother Nicholas Alonzo Jr. who was killed on the shores of Guam in World War II, a sister, Mary Louise Stoddard, and two baby sons. He is survived by his wife Cherie, son, Bill Jr. (Carolyn), daughter, Nicki Shurtleff (Steven), three stepsons: Sherman Sorensen (Tatyana), Kenneth Sorensen (Linda), and Richard Sorensen (Sarah), 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grand children. All who knew him will sorely miss Bill and his fun personality. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wells Fargo in the name of Bill's great-grandson, Clay Shurtleff who is fighting Leukemia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1250 E Murray-Holladay Rd (4800 S.) The family will receive visitors Friday, March 4, 2011, 6-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawns Funeral Home, 3401 S. Highland Dr. and Saturday at the church, 9:30-10:30a.m. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
