1938 ~ 2012|
Kathleen Wride Olsen, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister returned to her Father in Heaven early on Thursday, September 9, 2012.
She was born to Donald and Edna (Bowen) Wride on November 22, 1938 and grew up traipsing through the fields of Benjamin or riding down its dusty roads on her horse Spook with her brother Blake in tow.
She graduated from Spanish Fork High School and then attended Dixie College (where she made lifelong friends) and later graduated from Utah State University. She married D. Blair Olsen in the Salt Lake Temple on June 7, 1961 and they made their home in Benjamin - a place she dearly loved - where they raised three children.
She was by profession - and by her very deed - a teacher. She taught 1st grade at Mapleton Elementary School for many years and loved her students. At Christmas time she was troubled because she could not share stories reflecting the true meaning of the season with her students, so each December she and her husband would open their home to area children to come hear Christ-centered stories and view her extensive collection of nativities from around the world.
Kathleen was a longtime 4-H leader, and authored the "Benjamin Notes" in the Spanish Fork Press.
She was fearless in all she did - she was a Rebelette at Dixie College, a rodeo queen, an author, and had a beautiful voice. She and Blair were committed grandparents and rarely missed a performance, recital, or show that involved her grand kids.
Kathleen had a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ - and she lived it. She served as a Young Women's President (and Stake Young Women's President) and Relief Society President multiple times, and many other callings. She was especially pleased that she and her husband could serve as Senior Missionaries in Alaska, and New Mexico. More importantly, she filled her life with acts of Christian service to those she came in contact with.
She is survived by her husband Blair Olsen, and her children Heidi (Rhett) Burnham of American Fork, Kip (Robin) Olsen of Spanish Fork, Don (Rachel) Olsen of Springville, her brother Blake (Kathy) Wride of American Fork, and 10 grandchildren whom she adored.
A viewing will be held at the Benjamin LDS Chapel located at 3278 W. 7300 S., Benjamin, Utah on Sunday, September 9th from 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Monday, September 10th from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., with funeral services immediately following.
Interment will be at the Benjamin Cemetery.
