Gayle Christensen Peterson was born in Driggs, Idaho on Dec 9, 1935; she succumbed in her 13 year battle with cancer on Sept 18, 2012. She graduated with honors from Brigham Young University and received master's degrees in both History and Library Science from the University of Utah. She married Stephen Legrand Peterson June 11, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She taught elementary school and was school librarian in Granger and Granite School Districts. Her husband is an accomplished artist in watercolors, oils, tempera and sculpture.
They have four children: Annette of Sandy, UT; Miriam of Shelby, MT; Stephen of Chicago, IL and David who lives with his parents in Holladay. Gayle is survived by her husband, four children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served joyously in numerous positions with the Church, including as temple worker, service missionary and genealogy specialist. She adored her family, was an avid reader, loved animals and traveled extensively. Many friends and family mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at noon at the Olympus Stake Center, 2675 East 4430 South in Salt Lake City. Friends may visit with family on Friday at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane.
