Alex Richard Tolman Obituary
1929 ~ 2012
Alex Richard "Dick" Tolman was born May 20, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the first child and only son of Cyrus Henry Tolman and Esther Jones Smith. He passed from this life on October 2, 2012 to be with his sweetheart, wife and companion of 52 years, Norma Jeanne Juchau Tolman.
Jeanne and Dick were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 27, 1950. They are the parents of six children, Rick (Linda), Jon (Lisa), Jim (Birgit), Ted (Kris), Leslee (Dave) and Talei (Jeff). They have 31 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Dick received his undergraduate degree at Southern Idaho College of Education and his master's degree from UCLA. He served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict.
Dick was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of positions. He spent 42 years working in the public schools of Idaho and California. Some of his most cherished years were when he worked in the LDS Church Education System in New Zealand and the Fiji Islands, and the friendships made with many wonderful people there lasted throughout the years.
Dick was preceded in death by his wonderful wife Jeanne, his son, Ted, his parents Cyrus and Tessa, and his three sisters, Oril Margaret, Joan, and Tamara.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dick's nephew, Dr. Jeffrey Juchau, for years of care and kindness. They also would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Maple Creek Hospice, especially Carma and Gabriel, for their wonderful service and kindness during Dick's last months.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem Stake Center, 470 East Salem Canal Road, Salem, Utah. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
