Dennis Mower Obituary

1937 ~ 2012
Dennis Allen Mower, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather returned to his Father in Heaven on November 16, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 11, 1937 in Fairview, Utah to Fred Webster and Maurine Kiesel Mower.
Dennis grew up in beautiful Oak Creek, Utah. He attended Snow College where he participated as a member of the football team. As a young man, he faithfully served in the Eastern States LDS Mission. Following his mission, Dennis served as a member of the Utah National Guard. He met his sweetheart, Beverly Videll Johnson, while attending Brigham Young University and married her for time and all eternity September 9, 1961 in the Manti LDS Temple. Upon graduating from BYU, they moved to Roosevelt, Utah and Dennis worked as a counselor and teacher at Union High School. He later spent 10 years working for the Ute Indian tribe while serving as a member of the school board. Dennis continued his life long career in education by serving as Superintendent of Duchesne County School District and later as Superintendent of North Sanpete School District.
Dennis loved running, golfing, and fishing for rainbow trout. He loved all sports and was a True Blue Cougar Fan who loved to wake his children by calling, "Rise and Shout the Cougars are out!" He could tell anyone who asked the exact distance from his home to Cougar Stadium.
Dennis was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a profound love for his Savior. Dennis taught by word and example that great joy is found in loving and serving others. He felt blessed to hold many church callings that allowed him to influence the lives of others. Dennis served alongside his eternal companion in the California, Los Angeles Mission, the New Jersey, Cherry Hill Mission, and as an ordinance worker in the Manti LDS Temple. He was anxious to return once again to the mission field to share the gospel that he loved.
Dennis is survived by his wife Beverly and their eight children: Greg (Christy) Mower, Sharene (Peter) Mallett, Suzanne (Troy) Larsen, Mike (Stephanie) Mower, Shelly (Mark) Anderson, Jenny (Daren) Koldewyn, Jeff (April) Mower, and Melissa (Seth) Valentine. He is also survived by 35 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his siblings: Marcia (Ralph) Tucker, Morris (Sharlene) Mower, George Clair Mower, Jed (Cindy) Mower, Sherry (Marlin) Christensen, Judy Smith, and sisters-in-law Oleah and Kathy Mower.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Baby sister, Galen, Larry and Roger Mower.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Shafer View Ward LDS Chapel, 1695 E. Amity Road, Meridian with a viewing to be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will take place at the Melba Cemetery, in Melba later that day at 3 p.m. Arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300

I have such fond memories of Dennis and am so grateful that he came to North Sanpete to conclude his career. I felt I had a friend in him the first time I met him on one of the first days he was on the job. His communication with people was always with kindness. I watched him work and learned from him. He is a great man. My heart aches for you Beverly. I know you must feel a great loss. Our prayers are with you and your family.

When I was a Junior at Orem High School, Mr. Mower was a student teacher in my American History class. I remember him well not only because he was (I thought), tall and good-looking) but because he was a great teacher. May the Lord bless you at this tender time. Rebecca Carr Lewis
