"Coach Green"
Bill laid down his mortal fly rod for the last time on November 17, 2012 at age 84.
Born May 27, 1928 to William Horace and Thursa Mackay Green in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Provo High School in 1946, U of U in 1951, and received his Doctor of Education degree from BYU in 1970.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He married his high school sweetheart, Iona Nielsen, in the Salt Lake Temple June 14, 1948. He enjoyed a happy life with his wife of 64 years, seven children, 32 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
He played on U of U's baseball team in the 1951 College World Series and was a third team All-American.
Bill was a high school teacher and coach for 33 years at Olympus High School in Utah and Escondido and San Pasqua High Schools in California. He loved the challenge and opportunity to work with young men in both football and baseball. He had the privilege of coaching all four of his sons.
Bill loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, and his fellow man. He served as a Bishop, Stake President, Mission President in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission, Counselor in the Provo Temple Presidency, Patriarch in the Orem Windsor Stake, and Sealer at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.
He was an avid fly fisherman and is currently fly fishing some heavenly stream with his Dad and best friend, Johnnie Whiting.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, at 12:00 noon and viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Windsor Stake Center, 60 E 1600 N Orem, Utah. In lieu of flowers, it would be Bill's request that you make a contribution to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary fund.
