Marion Mare Bearnson Obituary
1925 ~ 2012
Marion Kjar Bearnson, aged 87, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2012 in Salt Lake City after a 24-year battle with lymphatic leukemia. All who knew "Pops" found him as a warm hearted, straight forward man who would do anything for anyone. He was a proud Marine with service during WWII on the islands of Saipan and Tinian. He was also very proud of his career as a firefighter with the Salt Lake City Fire Department. He retired in 1984 after 34 years of service. Dad loved to travel. He was a bonafide Snowbird, and traveled to all 50 States.
He was born on June 27, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Elmer and Josephine Bearnson. He graduated from South High School in 1943 before joining the Marines. In 1946 he married Nancy Ann Douglas of Salt Lake City in Elko, NV. Together they raised four children. Nancy passed away in 1991. Soon after her death, Pops pulled up stakes, and moved to Ivins, UT. As a "Jack of all Trades" he built a new home for himself and helped many others do the same. Dad had many friends there who were retired firefighters and he was very grateful for all the friendships and bonds that were formed over the years. He married Edna Stapley in 2002.
He is survived by his wife Edna, children Timothy (Chantal), Sandra Bearnson, Tamira Bearnson, and Mark, 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Also survived by brother Donald, and sister JoAnn Snyder, both of Springville. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, and grandson Seneca Valadollid, both parents, brothers Claire, Robert and Timothy, and sisters LaRae Bingham and Marjie Gardner.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 21, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East700 South. Services will be held at that location on Saturday December 22, at 11:00 am, with viewing beginning at 10:00 am.
Interment; Wasatch Lawn on 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
A Wake will be held in Ivins after the first of the year to celebrate Dad's life.
