Marilyn Huff Rishton Obituary
Marilyn Huff Rishton
1928 ~ 2013
Draper, UT - Marilyn Lowe Huff Rishton passed away suddenly on March 11, 2013 with her husband and grandchildren by her side.
Marilyn was born January 17, 1928 to Sparrel and Jennie Lowe Huff in Draper, UT. She married T. Ben Rishton on January 16, 1948 in Salt Lake City. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
She graduated from Jordan High School in 1946. It was when she was a young girl she developed her love of music, later teaching anyone who wanted to learn how to create beautiful music. She taught piano lessons to countless students and spent the past 30 years singing with the Schubert Singers.
Marilyn and Ben moved to Pocatello in the early 1950's where they adopted a son (Kip T Rishton) and welcomed his sister, Karalee Rishton, into the world. The family moved back to Salt Lake City in 1965 and then to Draper in 1968.
For 38 years she was the boss at the family business, Midvalley Shoe Repair and Leather in Murray, Utah. However, as a humble woman she insisted we all pretend Dad was in charge.
As a ward chorister, she conducted hymns in church at the many LDS Wards she was a member of over the years, even leading the music at church the day before her untimely passing. This was but one small example of how she was in service all her life and inspired others to serve.
She had a loving group of friends who would come to her house every Thursday and make quilts for everyone from new born babies to Utah Highway Patrol officers to victims of disasters around the world. Her favorite group to give quilts to was Bikers Against Child Abuse.
She passed along her joy of reading to the whole family, and enjoyed spending Saturdays having lunch with her granddaughter and great grandchildren. Her Christmas chocolates will be missed and cannot be replicated because only she knew the secret recipe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Gail, and Lavar and her sisters, Ruth, Virginia (Christensen), Donna (Gilbert), and Verlene, sister-in-law, Jolyn Stout Fitzgerald, and her daughter, Karalee Rishton Montano.
She is survived by her husband, Ben, son, Kip, grandchildren, Brynn Montano Anderson (Jason), Trisha Montano, and Matthew Montano and son-in-law, David Montano. She leaves four great grandchildren, Connor Anderson, Samantha Anderson, Owen Anderson, and Molly B. Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Draper 15th Ward, 13112 South 700 East, Draper, UT. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday evening at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, UT and one hour prior to the services, at the church. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens. www.goffmortuary.com
