Robert "Bob" Lyle Farnsworth, 83, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor passed on Sunday, June 9, 2013, surrounded by his beloved wife and family.
Bob was born May 11, 1930, in Salt Lake City to Owen T. and Edythe Jacques Farnsworth. He was the loving husband of Maryann Doxey whom he married on December 17, 1960, in Park City, Utah. They were later sealed on August 13, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Bob grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School, then completed training at the Radio Institute and attended the University of Utah. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was employed for 41 years with the Utah Air National Guard, greatly enjoying the time spent on the Francis Peak Radar Site. He was also an instructor at Salt Lake Community College, a member for many years of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Jeep Patrol Search and Rescue, and belonged to the Sons of Utah Pioneers. Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various ward and stake callings including a five year Welfare employment Church-service mission. Hunting, working in his garage and spending time with grandchildren were some of Bob's greatest enjoyments.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Theodore, son Teddy, and two grandchildren, Mike and Jeremy.
He is survived by his wife Maryann, his siblings Carol Edwards and Daryl K. (Judy) Farnsworth, children, Jeff Fergus, Dawna (Bryce) McMillan, Laura Jo Fergus (Frank) Montoya, Michael (Nancy) Farnsworth, Robert (Jillene) Farnsworth, II, Troy (Deanna Fish) Farnsworth, 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express gratitude to John R. Dietlein, MD, and the Vista Care Hospice staff and caregivers, family, friends and neighbors who lovingly assisted our beloved mother in caring for our cherished father.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the LDS Hunter 1st Ward, 3665 South 6000 West, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening, June 14, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City and Saturday morning at the church one hour prior to services. Interment: Elysian Gardens Cemetery, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.
