Joe Taylor Obituary

1942 ~ 2013
Joe Reese Taylor passed away at the University of Utah Medical Center on June 10, 2013, from causes relating to sugar diabetes. He was born to Joseph Hyrum Taylor and Geraldine Charles Taylor on September 29, 1942.
He attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated with the Granite High class of 1960. He served as an Army reservist and did six months active duty as an MP. After attending Snow College he moved on to Utah State University, graduating with a degree in statistics. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree.
In 1964 he married Florence Todd and they were the parents of two sons, Todd Taylor (deceased in 2012) and La Marr Taylor. Joe and Flory have three grandchildren: Mason Taylor (Sylvia), Michael Taylor (Kaitlyn) and Tryston Taylor. Joe spent 30 years as an engineer working for the former Utah Power & Light. He and Flory cherished many friendships from the power company.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many vacations enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. He knew a lot of the back roads, canyons and hamlets in the state of Utah as well as many in Wyoming. Flory and the boys would often accompany him and it was good family time. Joe was loving and extremely loyal to family members and friends. Until his health began to fail, you could always count on him to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, son, grandchildren, two brothers (Jack and wife Ann of Carey, Idaho, Jerald and wife Edna of Salt Lake City) and a sister, Jeri Taylor Wayman. Joe is also survived by beloved in- laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and son, Todd.
Private graveside services are planned for Saturday, June 15th at 1:30 p.m. We are having a Memorial to Joe's life, which all relatives and friends are invited to starting at 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Bountiful, Utah, at 52 West 200 North.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Todd Reese Taylor Scholarship at the University of Utah Hinckley Institute of Politics, 260 S Central Campus Dr. Rm. 253, SLC, UT 84112.

I still think of him now and then. He was my boss but he also felt like a friend. I admired him because he was ethical and honest.

Such a good man. Ethical and kind. He was a good boss. As sad as we were to lose him, I am glad he was with his son again. Up until my recent move to WA State, I would say. " Hi and God bless" every time I passed his gravesite.

Joe was a great guy & a good boss. I spent about 13 years working for him & always appreciated the way he treated & defended his employees. He gave me a chance that I may not have gotten anywhere else. Because of him, I have had a great career with the power company for over three decades now. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to see him again before his passing. My sincere condolences go to Flory & the family. We had many fond memories which I will forever cherish. Thanks so much for the friendship we shared.
