West Jordan, UT-Kirk W. Alger passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at his home in West Jordan, Utah. Kirk was born on August 2, 1932 in Cleveland, Utah. He was the 8th of 10 children born to Grover Carlos Alger and Laverda Winkler.
Kirk graduated from Carbon High School in Price, Utah in 1950, where he earned All-State honors in football as a running back. In 1952, Kirk married his sweetheart; Sharon Baird, and in 1989, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles, California temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kirk was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He received his degree in education from the University of Utah. He and his family spent 34 years in California where he worked at Hart High School in Newhall as a football coach and teacher and a second time as a counselor; Sierra Vista Jr. High as a Science Teacher; and Placerita Jr. High as the Dean of Students. He was instrumental in the opening of Saugus High School, and was the school's first Assistant Principal and Administrator over Athletics, from which he retired in 1992. He was inducted into Saugus High School's Athletic Hall of Fame. Kirk's career path suited him well, as he was passionate about being an influence for good among his peers and youth.
Kirk is preceded in death by the love of his life and eternal companion, Sheri. He longed to be with her and can now be reunited with her. Kirk was a dedicated and compassionate husband and father and was always willing to help anyone. He was a great example of hard work and dedication, and would do anything for his family. Kirk was well loved and respected by all who knew him and will be missed.
Kirk is survived by his 4 children; Debbie, Kelly, Kirk (Kim), Scott (Lauren), 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 10am at the Wakefield LDS Church, 6567 S. Wakefield Way, West Jordan, with viewing services at the church on Friday, August 23, 6:00-8:00pm and Saturday, August 24 9:00-10:00am.
