Donald K. Bailey M.D. Obituary
"Best Dad & Grandpa Ever!"
Donald K. Bailey, M.D. passed quietly at home on September 18, 2013 at the age of 93. He was born May 26, 1920 in central Ohio. He was placed in an orphanage and adopted by Ruth and Eugene Bailey of Cleveland, Ohio. They were great and loving parents.
After attending high school in Ohio he attended the University of Illinois graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry. He then attended Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. After receiving his M.D. he entered the Army in 1945. He was a Captain in the Medical Corp. He then spent 4 years as a resident in radiology at Cincinnati General Hospital and the Children's Medical Center of Cincinnati. He was a Board Certified Radiologist.
Donald was an experienced horseman. He was a member of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Posse. He was also a veteran pilot. He participated in multiple search and rescues by horseback, jeep and plane. He was the Director of the Civil Aeronautics Commission at the Salt Lake International Airport for many years. His love of flying and being a doctor led him to extend his private practice to several small town rural hospitals throughout Utah and Nevada.
He married Dorothy Bevier of Cleveland, Ohio. They adopted two children John Michael Bailey (wife Sharon) and Elizabeth Bailey Kearns. Dorothy passed away in 1978. He later married Louise Biesinger of Salt Lake City, Utah. Louise passed away in 2007.
God hand-picked Donald to be our Dad. He has filled our lives with love, kindness, integrity and a great sense of humor. He was an amazing man. His deep love for his family and his values have extended from us to our children, to our children's children and beyond. He leaves behind several grandchildren, many great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He has impacted all of our lives and each one of us will carry his love within our hearts forever.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Wellington Assisted Living, Dr. Danesh Rahimi and Cozy Home Health in particular his aid Valene and his nurse and beloved granddaughter Michelle for their loving care and kindness.
Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church located at 261 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013. In lieu of flowers make a donation to a charity that is close to your heart.
